A Note on Friuli
Where is that? Fair question. Friuli — officially Friuli Venezia Giulia — is the top-right corner of Italy, where the Julian Alps meet the Adriatic Sea on the border of Austria and Slovenia. This is the region that gave the world tiramisu, prosciutto di San Daniele, and some of the best white wine in Italy.
It’s also home to Montenars, the mountain village where Alyssa’s grandmother (“Nonna”) was born, and Gemona del Friuli, the mountain town next door to Montenars, where the wedding weekend will begin.
Time in FriuliNonna loved Friuli more than almost anything, and she made sure that love did not stop with her. Alyssa spent her childhood summers there — buying fresh cheese and meats at the mercatos, filling water bottles at the mountain spring where Nonna washed clothes as a girl, attending local sagras, and playing endless card games. That love of the region is the thing Nonna passed down to Alyssa most completely.
Enter Daniel
After law school, Alyssa and Daniel took their bar prep books to Gemona del Friuli and studied for the bar there with Nonna. Somewhere between the outlines and the espresso, the region got its hooks into him, too.
The WeddingChoosing Friuli was easy. It carries three generations of family history, and now it will carry this. We can’t wait to share it with you.
